Our gymnasium was founded about 100 years ago, so it’s one of the oldest educational establishments in Belarus. It has always specialised in English and provided a transformational education for its students. Good schools bring out the best in every young person through addressing their needs, nurturing their talent and developing their potential. At our gymnasium, we encourage students to be extraordinary...

1. What time do the children arrive at school?
The students start arriving from about 7:30 am. Most of our children walk from nearby housing estates, blocks of flats and cottages but some travel to school by car or by bus. On arriving, the children take off their coats (each class has their own wardrobe), empty their bags and get ready for their lessons.

2. What time does school start?
DOD_009School begins at 8:00 am. The bell rings and the children head for their classrooms. They wait for the teacher to start their first lesson. Students of senior classes have different teachers in all subjects while primary pupils are taught by the same teacher. Students usually have 5-6 lessons a day and each of them lasts for 45 minutes. Our morning lessons are usually English, Russian, Belarusian, mathematics, Physics, Chemistry. Then come History, PE, Geography, Computer studies and others. Our gymnasium is equipped with computers, projectors, tape recorders, CD-players. We also have 3 portable TVs with video recorders and an interactive whiteboard with data projectors to share.

3. What do the children do at break time?
The children have their breaks after each lesson. Each break lasts for 10 minutes. During the breaks students talk over different things, listen to music, play games and just relax.

4. When does lunch time begin and how long does it last?
DOD_011Lunch time is at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Most children have a school dinner cooked in our school kitchen. They can usually choose between a hot or cold dinner provided by the school. Some children are entitled to a free school dinner, but most children pay for theirs. The most favourite food in our canteen is salad, pizza, cakes, tea and juice. Teachers take it in turns to be on duty during lunch times and look after the children during lunch time.

5. When does school end?
School usually finishes at 2:00 p.m.

6. What do the children do after school?
DOD_013The rest of the time is spent on extra-curricular activities which we believe play a very important role in the life of the students and the gymnasium. We therefore offer a variety of clubs for our students to join and enjoy.  Once the children have joined a club they are expected to attend regularly. Afternoon activities continue until 4:00 pm when the children go home.

DOD_0147. What about school uniform?
Students don’t have a special uniform in the gymnasium but they are expected to wear formal clothes such as black or blue skirts or trousers and white blouses for girls and black or blue suits for boys.
